About Me!

Hey! My name is Brogan and I’m so excited to meet my new clients and their paw-children!

Working with animals is something I have wanted to do since I was very young, I dreamt of going to college for a very long time to study Animal Management. I did achieve this goal and it truly highlighted the love I had for animals as I got to go to South Africa with Capel Manor College to see the Born Free Foundation which was incredible. I also had lots of hands on experience with many different animals, small and big in the practical side of learning during my time here as well as theory, but as a 17 year old just graduating college with a level 3 certificate in Animal Management, I found it was difficult to get into the animal care field without necessary experience working within the field.

I found a job as a Nursery Nurse at a children's nursery and worked here for 4 years with children between the ages of 0-5 years and those with SEND (special educational needs and/or disabilities), I found children are very similar to animals as they offer such a pure love and working with both children and animals is extremely rewarding. I ventured further down the childcare path and went to University to study Early Years Education, here I found actually a lot of theories used in childcare are the same as animal care, there are many similarities I have found between the two industries, I got my degree and soon after became a Family Support Worker, this job was a truly humbling experience and I loved every minute of it. However, I suffered from anxiety at the time and recognised that taking my dogs out for walks was bringing me more inner peace than anything else, so I left that job and began to focus more on Dachshunds, I then began working at a doggy daycare with 20+ dachshunds and other small breeds.

I also adopted a puppy from Dachshund Rescue UK and am now a volunteer for them undertaking home checks and transportation for the daxies, I also volunteer for The Red Foundation. I have enjoyed undertaking training and regularly read tips and watching videos offered by Sharon at Perfectly Polite Dachshunds regarding behavioural issues and positive training methods. I want to outline that I am by no means a trainer, I highly recommend Sharon as mentioned above for dachshund training and behavioural advice, I am a dog walker but I will ensure that your dog has basic manners during walks as well as lots of fun, cuddles, kisses, adventures and photo/videos for your whole family to see! I currently volunteer at the Animal Rehabilitation Centre: ARC on Sundays, to learn more about hydrotherapy and physiotherapy as this is something that interests me a lot in regards to IVDD.

I am mummy/auntie to 4 Dachshunds of my own, 3 of which being rescues. 2 of my daxies have had physical health problems; Dinky came to us with a broken leg repaired by the amazing rescue Pro Dogs Direct, Bella has suffered with IVDD so I am highly experienced in the IVDD field and the rehabilitation process after injuries of any kind. I recommend to anyone going through the IVDD journey to get in touch with me if you would like some help, advice or just someone to talk to, I also recommend purchasing The IVDD Handbook or joining the Dachshund IVDD UK group on Facebook. My sausage dogs are my life and they really are the children in our family. I know that I have provided all my sausages with an amazing life and adventures and now I want to offer the same service to other owners and their furbaby’s! I completely understand that your daxie(s) and other doggies are your babies not just a pet and the anxiety behind leaving them alone or having them in somebody else’s care, I can help you and your family in anyway to ensure you feel comfortable and able to trust and rely on me to care for your 4 legged fluff baby. I am a very calm person and with my family support background and my own understanding of anxiety and training in mental health, I am able to help my clients feel more relaxed, I can also help daxies feel more relaxed with my calm, confident and loving nature. Note: This may help over time to reduce your dogs separation anxiety, it introduces them to a new person, allows them to socialise and breaks the day up for them.

As well as being Level 3 qualified in Animal Management, I have also undertaken Canine First Aid Training run by Louise at Dog First Aid Hertfordshire and Central Bedfordshire (check her out on Facebook 10/10 recommend) the course was very informative and fun and taught me a lot more about the care of our pawed children. I am DBS checked and fully insured. I have my own means of transport also business insured, including crates to ensure the safety of your small dog during car journeys. I have over 5 years experience with Dachshunds and 24 years of experience with other dogs such as spaniels, poodles, frenchies, labradors and a variety of other breeds, I also have a high level of understanding about canine behaviour. Note: I will not post proof of any documents for privacy reasons and protection of data, but I will however bring a folder with all the documents upon each trial visit to help put your minds at ease.

I could talk to you all day about my sausages, however there just isn’t enough time for you to read my whole life story nor is there enough space! So, please spend some time either looking at our instagram, facebook or gallery which is available through the links at the top of our website! I am also beginning a blog in the meantime that I would like for you all to see. There is so much about me I want my clients to know but there isn’t enough room to write it all! Therefore please click the link to my blog - Auntie Daxie’s Diaries - to find out more about me, tips and tricks, stories, general information, more about my dogs and each of their journeys as well as journeys I have been on and my own experiences. I want to make this service not just about walking your dog but a family feel good environment where you can really get to know me and how pawsome (and not so pawsome) my adventures in life have been so far and how excited I am for future pawsome adventures not just on my own but with my Auntie Daxie Family on this journey with me! I hope to hear from you soon!

Love, Auntie Daxie x
